Abstract:		 This report details the results of a programme of evaluation trenching undertaken on land at East Thickley Farm, Shildon, County Durham in advance of the submission of outline planning application. The trenching was undertaken in order to characterise the potential effects of the proposed development on the archaeological resource, in particular any archaeological deposits associated with the nearby deserted medieval village of East Thickley. A linear feature visible on mid-20th century aerial photography crosses the proposed development site, and has been interpreted as a possible medieval boundary.
