Abstract:
AB Heritage was commissioned to produce an historic environment desk based assessment and visual impact assessment for the site at Quantock House, Paul Street, Taunton, Somerset. The proposed development site lies within the former extent of the medieval town of Taunton, and is surrounded primarily by surviving structures of post medieval date. It was concluded that the potential for surviving archaeological features within the site boundary is likely to be moderate to low, and any remains may relate to the medieval of Taunton or the former post medieval buildings within the site. The predicted medium impact of the proposed development results in a moderate significance of effect in relation to medieval features, and a minor significance of effect of in relation to post-medieval features. It was concluded that less than substantial harm would be posed to the heritage assets and viewpoints as a result of the proposal.
