Abstract: |
Archaeological trial trenching was carried out by MOLA across c2.3ha of grassland/parkland to inform a planning application. The trenches largely targeted anomalies detected in an earlier geophysical survey (Arkley 2017). Archaeology was distributed across the entire evaluation area with a particular concentration on the high ground at the centre of the site with evidence of a possible Iron Age to Roman settlement in the form of an enclosure ditch with internal postholes and a number of boundary ditches extending to the west and south-west. An area of post medieval quarrying is also noted in the north-east corner of the site. |
