Abstract:
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken by Pre-Construct Archaeology Ltd. at the Phase 6.1 site, South Acton Estate, Acton, LB Ealing, in advance of development. The fieldwork was carried out between 31st October and 4th November 2016. The fieldwork comprised four evaluation trenches in the north and central area of the site. A fifth proposed trench to the south of the site was abandoned due to the presence of live services. The evaluation identified natural horizons overlain by a layer of buried subsoil to the north. Post-medieval activity was seen in all four excavated trenches. The post-medieval activity mostly comprised evidence of 19th century buildings which were seen within the northern part of the site. The post-medieval sequence was overlain by layers dating to the 20th century re-development of the area. No significant archaeological features or deposits relating to the prehistoric, Roman, medieval or early post-medieval periods were encountered during the investigation.
