Abstract: |
Fourteen machine-dug trial pits were excavated as part of the Ground Investigations to inform the design and construction of the proposed Holme Sluice Fish Pass at Colwick, Nottingham. Five boreholes were also sunk but unobserved. No archaeological deposits or horizons were encountered during the continuous monitoring of the Ground Investigations. A sequence of deposits was identified from the ground surface through to the mudstone bedrock. Extensive made up ground, some of which was contaminated with hydrocarbons, consisting of mainly reworked alluvial material and redeposited superficial sands and gravels, below the topsoil and subsoil lies directly on top of 'natural' alluvial deposits. |
