Abstract: |
Archaeology Wales carried out an archaeological evaluation in February 2016 to examine the archaeological potential of a site intended for flood alleviation development on land adjacent to Western Springs road, Rugeley, Staffordshire. The site is at Hagley Park, Rugeley, and is located adjacent to the site of the now demolished Hagley Hall, a post-medieval mansion with various phases of development and additions. Previous archaeological work within the assessment area includes a geophysical survey which highlighted several features of likely archaeological significance. A total of nine 30 metre evaluation trenches were excavated as part of the current phase of archaeological works. These were positioned in order to assess potential archaeological features (and blank areas) identified on a geophysical survey undertaken in 2015. |
