Abstract: |
A detailed gradiometry survey was conducted over approximately 41 hectares of agricultural land, in mixed arable and pastural use. A number of archaeological anomalies have been identified, mostly concentrated in the south western section of the survey area. These include a number of positive anomalies, in the form of linear and curvi-linear features, these are indicative of enclosures and ditch features. There are also a number of negative linear features indicative of ploughed out banks or earthworks. In the centre section of the survey area there are a number of linear anomalies possibly relating to historic field boundaries. Historic mapping dating back to 1889 indicates that the site has gone through a number of agricultural landscape changes, and these boundaries may relate to one of these phases of agricultural activity. Areas of magnetic disturbance, magnetic debris and modern pipes, cables or services, magnetic spikes and natural, geological variation have also been identified. |
