Abstract: |
Allen Archaeology Ltd was commissioned by Peter Humphrey Associates on behalf of Mr Pop Jolley to undertake an archaeological evaluation by trial trenching on land off Teachers Close in Manea Cambridgeshire. There have been scattered finds of prehistoric date in the area as well as a possible Iron Age settlement. A Roman pewter hoard was within the radius of 300m of the site. More recent archaeological evaluations around the immediate proposed development area revealed post-medieval field boundaries or drainage ditches. A total of seven trenches were excavated which revealed two undated pits and two undated linear features whereof one is likely to be a previous field boundary. A large 19th century pit was discovered which is likely to be a disused clay quarry pit which is visible on the Ordnance Survey Maps between 1887 and 1958. The evaluation demonstrated that the proposed development will impact on little archaeology of low local significance. |
