Abstract: |
An archaeological trial trench evaluation was undertaken in February and March 2014 on land west of Station Lane, Asfordby by University of Leicester Archaeological Services. The fieldwork was undertaken prior to a planning application for residential development of the site, in order to assess the potential impact on any archaeological remains within the area. The work follows a desk-based assessment, fieldwalking and geophysical survey which confirmed the presence of two prehistoric ring ditches, located directly underneath the overhead power lines that cross the site. These are likely to be associated with a significant scatter of Neolithic- Bronze Age worked flints, including tools, which were recovered during fieldwalking. |
