Abstract: |
This report presents the results of an archaeological evaluation undertaken in relation to a proposed housing development at South Gilmerton Farm, Edinburgh (NGR: NO 29529 68361). The evaluation required a 10% trenching sample (7400m2 linear metres) of the proposed 7.4 hectare development area. The area is currently used for arable agriculture. Two post-medieval boundary ditches, one containing two sherds of 17th/18th century green-glazed ceramic, were present. In addition, a possible small stone structure, likely to be contemporary with the ditches, and two pits relating to the historic mining activity in the area were also recorded. |
