Abstract:		 A programme of phased archaeological works was required in advance of a proposed residential development on land at Station Road, Gilmerton, Edinburgh. CECAS (City of Edinburgh Council Archaeology Service) required a 10% evaluation of the 23ha development area which equated to 11,000 linear metres. Despite the presence of a farm track running through the development area a total of 21,478.6m2 of evaluating trenching was excavated. The evaluation revealed the continuation of the industrial landscape recorded during the 2017 evaluation. Numerous features were recorded consisting of a series of sub circular mining pits, a backfilled quarry and the remains of a small building dating to the 19th century. Due to several archaeological features encountered during the evaluation it likely that further work may be required to sufficiently record the extent of the archaeological landscape. The need and scope for further works is to be confirmed by CECAS (City of Edinburgh Council Archaeology Service.
