Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during groundworks for the excavation of a new soakaway and associated service trenches at Monks House, Rodmell, East Sussex. Works included ground reduction of an area approximately 1.2 x 1.2m to a maximum depth of 0.9m below ground level. Site visits were made to monitor groundworks on the 3rd and 4th February 2009. Excavations encountered finds of Post Medieval ceramic building material and pottery as well as a concentration of wattle impressed daub and a demolished garden wall. The wall probably comprised an earlier property boundary and the concentration of daub may indicate the remains of a wattle and daub structure within the vicinity. |
