Abstract: |
In February 2017 Archaeological Solutions (AS) carried out an archaeological trial trench evaluation on land at Cobmead, Honey Lane, Waltham Abbey, Essex (NGR TL 39837 00016). The evaluation was carried out in compliance with a planning condition attached to planning permission for the demolition of the existing house and construction of a residential development of 8 dwellings (Epping Forest District Council Planning Ref. EPF/2739/16), based on the advice of Historic Environment Advisor of Essex County Council (ECC HEA). The Essex Historic Environment Record (EHER) notes the site lies within area of archaeological potential associated with its presence adjacent to the historic Honeylands Farm and adjacent to a medieval lane with possible Roman antecedents. The medieval farmstead of Honeylands was recorded as associated with Hugh de Honiland in the 13th century. The evaluation revealed no archaeological finds or features. |
