Abstract: |
Rapid walkover survey using a GPS, to assess the woodland's potential to contain well-preserved archaeological features. The wood was walked in transects aligned N-S or E-W, approx 50m or 100m apart. The survey is only a sample of the wood and should not be taken as exhaustive, or its results as definitive. Features recorded included charcoal burning platforms, storage platforms, possible saw pits, hollow ways, trackways, woodland boundary banks, quarries and a prehistoric berm. |
