Abstract: |
Rapid walkover survey using a GPS, to assess the woodland's potential to contain well-preserved archaeological features. The wood was walked in transects aligned N-S or E-W, approx 50m to 100m apart. The survey is only a sample of the wood and should not be taken as exhaustive, or its results as definitive. Features recorded included hollow ways, trackways, saw pits, a charcoal burning platform, a ditch, woodland boundaries, quarries, a dismantled railway and the remains of a building. |
