Abstract: |
Desk Based Assessment Until the late 18th Century the Project Site lay within a rural setting outside of the main settlement areas of Bristol. With the expansion of a prosperous city it was transformed into an affluent development of grand houses looking out onto an attractive square. A domestic dwelling and a series of commercial ventures were operated from land off Surrey Street, behind the houses of Portland Square. The Project Site was wholly given over to commercial and light industrial use before falling into decline in the 20th century. |
