Abstract: |
This report describes the results of an archaeological trial trench evaluation carried out by Pre-Construct Archaeology on land adjacent to 66 Station Road, Over, Cambridgeshire (NGR TL 3698 7040) between the 13th and the 14th February 2017. The archaeological work was commissioned by Mead Homes Ltd in response to a planning condition attached to the construction of two residential dwellings with associated garages and vehicular access. The aim of the work was to characterise the archaeological potential of the proposed development area. The results of the evaluation were limited; two small sterile ditches and a furrow was recorded along with two small postholes, one of which contained highly abraded 'crumbs' of Iron Age pottery. The heavily abraded nature of the pottery meant it was likely to be residual and therefore is unable to be used to date the feature. The features recorded show that this area of Over was outside the main medieval activity of the village to the north, and the medieval manors to the west and north |
