Abstract: |
A detailed gradiometry survey was conducted over approximately 4.5 hectares of grassland. The survey has identified an area of settlement activity in the north and enclosures in the south-east that share a similar alignment. It is thought that these anomalies are Romano-British rather than related to the adjacent Sysonby Grange. A small number of possible archaeological anomalies have also been identified, however these could equally relate to modern agricultural activity. Areas of ridge and furrow cultivation across the site suggest that the area has been used for agricultural purposes since the medieval period. The remaining anomalies are modern, relating to an area of scattered magnetic debris, ferrous objects, and fencing. |
