Abstract: |
This report presents the results of a programme of archaeological evaluation undertaken by AOC Archaeology Group on behalf of New Age Developers ahead of the development of a land parcel at 63 Ladywell Avenue, Corstorphine, Edinburgh. The development area totalled 0.16 ha and consisted of garden, open areas of hard-standing and upstanding buildings. The archaeological evaluation was to consist of the machine trenching of 160m² (80 linear metres). However, the presence of extensive live services restricted the evaluation to 50 linear metres. No significant archaeological features or material were recorded during the evaluation. It was apparent that the open area of the forecourt had been previously truncated. This had removed the in situ deposits to natural subsoil. A mix of made ground and hard standing was then imported in order to increase the ground level. |
