Abstract: |
For the insertion of a new wood platform this involved the removal of soil in an area of approximately rectangular shape, up to 2m wide by 3m long, to a maximum depth in one small area of c.0.25m and elsewhere between 0.05 and 0.15m. The amount of soil excavated, although small, may have preserved artefacts and faunal remains from excavations by Mello and Dawkins (1870s) and by Armstrong in the 1920s(Colcutt and Johnson, 1999). An area of 6 square metres was laid out and was excavated and only where it was necessary to place the platform. Flints and small bones were recovered. |
