Abstract: |
A historic building survey to Level 3 was undertaken by the University of Leicester Archaeological Services (ULAS) at Home Farm, Markfield Road, Groby, Leicestershire in October 2017. The client intends to refurbish the unlisted range of buildings most of which have a mid-19th century origin. The farmhouse is the oldest building on the site and may be dated to the earlier part of the 19th century. An extension to the rear of the farmhouse is of probable early to mid-19th century date with the remaining farm buildings being added in a single phase during the 1850s and 1860s. The later 1850s farm buildings are likely to have been built by the Earl of Stamford. The farm buildings centre around two yards and feature a number of matching architectural details and decorative features. The farm has strong links with the local slate industry. |
