Abstract:
A one-day archaeological watching brief of ground breaking works relating to the mains electrical cable location investigation at the York Art Gallery site in York. Located between the art gallery's NE elevation and the interior of the NW-SE section of the St.Mary's Abbey Walls, excavations re-opened preexisting service trenches to locate and cap mains power to the Art gallery during refurbishment. Trench located water, gas, and electrical mains. Single fill context of redeposited multiperiod detritus, heavily disturbed. Unstratified finds from the 20th century to the Roman period. Some Roman and Medieval finds retained, deposited with the York Museums Trust.
