Abstract: |
This report presents the results of an archaeological evaluation undertaken in relation to a proposed Solar Farm development at Kirktonbarns Farm, near Tayport, Fife (NGR: NO 44410 26547). The evaluation required a 5% trenching sample of the proposed 8.95 hectare development area. The development is situated on the south facing sloping farmland associated with Kirktonbarns Farm. Trenching revealed drift geology to consist predominantly of glacial clay till with numerous outcrops of foliated bed-rock. The lower part of the development area revealed rubble drains set at 5.0 m intervals. The natural was overlain by a shallow improved plough soil which ranged from 0.20 m to 0.40 m in depth. No archaeologically significant remains were observed. Occasional sherds of 19th century ceramics were observed within the plough soil. Given the lack of significant archaeological remains and the level of recording undertaken no further works are considered necessary. This will be determined by Mr Douglas Speirs Archaeologist for Fife Council. |
