Abstract:
Between November 2000 and January 2001, English Heritage carried out an archaeological survey and investigation of a Napoleonic gun tower at Fort Clarence, Rochester in Kent. The 'fort' was in reality a short defensive Line, running east to west for 530m (580 yards) across a ridge known at the time as St Margaret's Heights, between the Maidstone road and the River Medway. Today, only Clarence Tower, the Governor's House, parts of the Line and the East and West Casemates remain. (This was report number 40/2002 in a previous series).
