Abstract:
The archaeological trenching revealed the presence of moderate - well preserved archaeological pits and postholes within the site, outside the footprint of the former North View House. The archaeological remains most likely date to the Roman period, however, there was artefactual evidence which suggested the possibility of Prehistoric activity. None of the features were demonstrably related to the previously identified Roman cemetery, although, two of the postholes appeared to be set on a similar alignment to the cemetery wall and associated post-settings. The absence of human remains within the evaluation trenches does not preclude the possibility that further burials or cremations may be present outside of the investigated areas.
