Abstract:		 In October 2016 Archaeological Solutions Ltd (AS) carried out an archaeological evaluation on land to the east of Abbey Farm, The Street, South Elmham St James, Suffolk IP19 0HT (NGR TM 317 811). The evaluation was required to be carried out in order to provide for the initial requirement of a planning condition attached to approval for a new residential dwelling (Suffolk Coastal Council Approval Ref. DC/16/0368/FUL), based on the advice of Suffolk County Council Archaeological Service Conservation Team (SCC AS-CT). Trench 1 contained no archaeological features. Trench 2 revealed a ditch segment containing medieval (12th to 14th century) pottery and a modern pond. Subsoil L1002 (Trench 2) and Topsoil L1001 (Trench 1) also contained residual pottery of 12th to 14th century date.
