Abstract:		 In May 2017 Archaeological Solutions (AS) carried out an archaeological trial trench evaluation on land adjacent to the Essex County Council Youth Camp, Rewsalls Lane, East Mersea, Colchester, Essex CO5 8SX (NGR TM 0391 1319). The evaluation was carried out in compliance with a planning requirement in advance of the proposed construction of a new shower and toilet amenity block. The evaluation was required based on the advice of the Colchester Borough Council Archaeological Advisor (CBC AA) The Colchester Historic Environment Record (HER) identifies the site as being within an area of archaeological interest, and is within an area that would have been a topographic location attractive to early settlement. Recent archaeological work close by on the foreshore to the east of the site has revealed a variety of hitherto unknown archaeological remains. The evaluation revealed no archaeological features or finds.
