Abstract: |
Wessex Archaeology Ltd was commissioned by Morgan Sindall Plc to undertake an archaeological watching brief to mitigate the potential loss of archaeological remains during groundworks between an existing sewage treatment works north of Fleet Lane and the hamlet of Bredon's Hardwick, Worcestershire (Figure 1). The Scheme involved the excavation of twelve trial trenches within greenfields and within Bredon's Hardwick. The watching brief was carried out between February 28th and March 5th 2012 in accordance with a Written Scheme of Investigation (attached). Modern material was encountered at the southern end of the Scheme, including a plastic drain and a red-brick wall representing the surrounding wall of an existing sewage installation. Four trenches were excavated on the line of the existing sewage pipe. The remaining trenches were excavated offline, within greenfield areas, and revealed largely the same stratigraphic sequence. No archaeological deposits were observed. |
