Abstract:
Border Archaeology was commissioned by Border Oak Ltd to carry out archaeological observation on land at East Street, Pembridge, Herefordshire (NGR SO 393 581). The archaeological observation was in response to a planning application (NW01/3359/F) and subsequent development of the site. The site lies close to the northern boundary of the village and was divided into three plots - referred to as Plots 1 to 3. The archaeological observation in Stoney Croft, East Street, Pembridge revealed a number of important deposits, features and structures. These included two early Post-Medieval gullies (or ditches), a late Medieval/early Post-Medieval stone-lined well and two Post-Medieval pit features, probably dating to around 1650 (based on an insitu pottery and clay pipe assemblage). These features and structures were located in Plots II and III. Most of the archaeological activity on the site was concentrated within the western and central areas of the site. No archaeology was found at the eastern end of the site (Plot I).
