Abstract: |
This report details the results and working methods of an evaluation undertaken by Pre-Construct Archaeology Ltd. on land at 217 Tabard Street, London, SE1 4UR, London Borough of Southwark. The evaluation was carried out between 17th and 19th March 2014 and consisted of the excavation and recording of one trench. The archaeological sequence on site consisted of 16th century probable wetland which was consolidated by rubbish deposits in the 17th and 18th centuries, before the dense urbanisation and sewer construction of the 19th century. The size of the site constrained the depth of the trench and therefore deposits dating to earlier than the 16th century were not reached. |
