Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken by Pre-Construct Archaeology Limited at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, King Charles Street, Whitehall, Westminster. The watching brief monitored the excavation of a new lift shaft for disabled access and service trench within the WH Quad entrance. The watching brief revealed the presence of archaeological horizons from the 16th century onwards, associated with previous development at the site and the possible construction of the present Foreign Office building. There were significant modern truncations within the investigated area, which might suggest that any removal of earlier (medieval) horizons had taken place during the construction of the Foreign Office Building |
