Abstract: |
an archaeological evaluation conducted in advance of a proposed development at Green Rigg, Medburn, Northumberland. The works comprised the excavation of 18 trenches. The modern deposit identified in Trench 1 relates to greenhouses previously sited in the vicinity in the later 20th century. The gully identified in Trench 8, whilst differing to other field drains excavated in the near vicinity, was nevertheless characteristic of a land drain in form and appearance. The shallow gully excavated in Trench 12 was the truncated remains of a furrow. Plough furrows were identified across both fields during the excavations, indicating agricultural exploitation of the land during the medieval or post-medieval period in this area. |
