Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during the excavation of one draw pit and two ducts near Long Furlong Lane, Patching, West Sussex (NGR: TQ 091 062 ). An area measuring approximately 2m² was reduced to 1.1m for the draw pit, with two 300mm wide ducts (extending to the south and south west) excavated to a depth of 900mm. These works were undertaken on the 4th August 2010. The site, currently a Southern Water Pumping Station, consisted of 100mm of either humic topsoil or made ground tarmac onto 300mm of silt clay subsoil, overlying a chalk natural. No archaeological finds or features were recovered |
