Abstract: |
This survey report results from building recording carried out by the Architectural Investigation (London) section of English Heritage under the framework of its emergency recording programme. The While City Arch and the series of interlinked steel-framed sheds behind it survive as the only remnants of the Franca-British Exhibition of 1908, excepting the White City Stadium. Because the unlisted arch and sheds face imminent demolition to make way for a new shopping centre and rail terminal buildings, the opportunity was taken to record them so that their significance to constructional and architectural history was not lost. |
