Abstract: |
Wessex Archaeology was commissioned by Veolia 'the client', to undertake an archaeological watching brief on the installation of a potable water main from an existing water main connection with the Scheduled Monument boundary of Picton Barrows (list no. 1009964) within Picton Barracks, Bulford Camp, Wiltshire. The archaeological watching brief monitored the excavation of 18m of utility trenching, 12m of which was located within the boundary of the Scheduled Monument. The soil sequence within the monument boundary comprised previously truncated chalk natural overlaid with a modern bedding layer and a tarmac road surface. No archaeological features or deposits were observed during the works. |
