Abstract: |
Fired clay remains from two sites associated with the medieval and post-medieval glassmaking industry in the Sussex and Surrey Weald were sampled for archaeomagnetic analysis. At Glasshouse Lane a fired clay surface associated with the glassmaking remains produced an archaeomagnetic date of AD 1555 - 1650 at 95% confidence, while at Imbhams Farm it was possible to sample the clay lining of the furnace itself yielding a date of AD 1515 - 1565 at 95% confidence. |
