Abstract: |
This report details the key findings from the Yorkshire Dales Mapping Project carried out by staff from the Air Photography Unit of the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England (now part of the English Heritage Remote Sensing Team) between 1989 and 1992. An extension to the original project area was undertaken in 1992 as the Howgill Fells NMP Project. This summary report covers both areas and was completed in 1995 and circulated to partners. The report describes the methodology and products of the air photo interpretation and mapping of over 3000 square kilometres of upland England resulting in more than 18,000 archaeological records. There are thematic, morphological and period summaries that highlight key results of the survey, and a discussion of how successful the project was in achieving its objectives and the recommendations arising. |
