Abstract: |
A standing building recording to Level 2 was undertaken at Norris Hill, Moira, Leicestershire by the University of Leicester Archaeological Services (ULAS) on the 12th and 13th of December 2018. The survey studied the remains of buildings associated with the now demolished Norris Hill Hall. The study included the Norris Hill Cottages which appear to have begun life as a pair of small late 18th century cottages which had sham Gothic detailing and probably a thatched roof. In the mid-19th century the Cottages were extended to include towers to house staircases and a range of larger rooms. The remains of glasshouses and garden buildings serving the hall were also studied. Stables and outbuildings adjacent to the Hall completed the building survey. The stables are likely to have an early 19th century origin with mid-19th century additions and modifications. |
