Abstract: |
Archaeology South-East was commissioned by CgMs Consulting to undertake an archaeological evaluation on land south of Rocky Lane, Haywards Heath, West Sussex (Phase 1, Part 1). Eleven trenches were mechanically excavated to the top of the natural geology. A small feature producing Middle to Late Bronze Age pottery was excavated in one trench alongside a small undated feature and one sherd of pottery of the same date was also found unstratified in another trench. No other archaeological or features were encountered in the other 9 trenches. The significance of finding Middle/Late Bronze Age pottery in two locations on the site should perhaps be measured fairly highly given the overall paucity of Bronze Age archaeology known of in the High Weald. |
