Abstract:
Archaeological Watching Brief carried out between the 29th March and 30th April 2018 on Thames Water works at Huggin Hill, City of London EC4V 4AY. The works were undertaken as part of the Crouch Hill Victorian Mains Replacement Scheme, and involved connecting 4 new water mains, installed in 2008, together to finalise the network. The trench was located within the cycle way of Upper Thames Street and measured 6m in length x 2m in width x 0.5 - 1.0m in depth (c6.5-6mOD). The stratigraphy comprised post-medieval made ground truncated on numerous occasions by services. No archaeological finds or features, particularly associated with the known Scheduled Monument of Huggin Hill Roman Bath House (LO160) were observed. Natural geology was not reached.
