Abstract:
The Temperate House is a Grade I listed building and forms a centrepiece of the collections at the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, itself a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was deemed necessary to undertake a programme of restoration and renovation of the Temperate House to conserve, and improve the efficiency of, the building which had not been touched since the late 1970s. Between October 2014 and November 2017 Compass Archaeology conducted a programme of archaeological watching brief and standing building recording during renovation works as part of the Temperate House Precinct Project.
