Abstract:
Headland Archaeology (UK) Ltd undertook an open area excavation on a site close to the junction of the M4 and A419 motorways to the south-east of Swindon between February and May 2014. Significant pre-historic settlement remains were uncovered including a large circular ring-ditch, dating to the early Bronze Age, a post- built roundhouse, a small group of pits and a small later ring-ditch which had been used as a depository for a later Iron Age currency bar. Evidence was also uncovered for extensive stock control in the form of complex ditch arrangements, and evidence of a Bronze Age farmstead. Two ring-ditches dating to the Roman-British period were found in the west of the site, along with a range of associated linear features.
