Abstract: |
This report presents the results of an archaeological evaluation undertaken in respect to a proposed development on a land parcel northeast of Fife Park Apartments, St Andrews (centred on NGR: NO 49363 16430). The evaluation was undertaken within a single land parcel of 7.2 ha. A 10% sample of the evaluation area was investigated by trial trenching. The scope of the works was agreed in a WSI approved by Douglas Spiers of Fife Council Archaeological Service. The archaeological evaluation uncovered a heavily truncated agricultural landscape dating back to at least the 16th century in the form of linears of rig and furrow. No archaeologically significant small finds were recovered during the evaluation. Given the findings of the evaluation no further archaeological mitigation is required within the development area. However, the new footpath line in the playing fields will require monitoring in the form of a watching brief. This will require confirmation of Douglas Spiers on behalf of Fife Council Archaeological Service. |
