Abstract: |
Archaeology South-East was commissioned to undertake an archaeological watching brief at Cuckfield House, Cuckfield. It comprised the monitoring of test pits, as well as the footprint of a new basement, a new garage and a rain storage tank. The natural clay was cut by a linear feature date 1760-1790 date in the south-east of the site. In the north-east of the site a well was recorded date to the 17th or 18th century was recorded. Across the remainder of the site a buried topsoil was overlain or in some cases truncated by made ground deposits and an asphalt surface, probably indicating the levelling of the site for a car park. |
