Abstract: |
Archaeology South-East was commissioned by CgMs Consulting on behalf of their client to undertake an archaeological watching brief at 240 Camberwell Road, London Borough of Southwark. The work comprised the monitoring of five geotechnical test pits located within the basements of standing buildings, and six boreholes and 1 test pit, mainly through building floors. Natural gravels were recorded in the footprint of the basements, overlain by modern backfill and the concrete basement slab. The boreholes saw post-medieval made ground overlying the Langley Silt Member. The construction of the basements had severely truncated that area of the site. No archaeological remains were observed. |
