Abstract:
In December 2017 Archaeological Solutions Ltd (AS) carried out archaeological monitoring and recording during groundworks associated with the construction of a single storey extension at the residential property of South Lodge, Youngsbury Lane, Wadesmill, Hertfordshire SG12 0TL (NGR TL 359 175). The monitoring was undertaken in compliance with a planning condition attached to planning approval (EHDC Planning Ref. 17/0289/HH), based on the advice of Hertfordshire County Council Historic Environment Advisory Team (HCC HEAT). The monitoring revealed made ground deposits (L1001, L1002 and L1003) to a depth of 0.50m+ These deposits contained modern (19th - 20th century) CBM. The stratigraphy appeared disturbed, for example, L1003 comprised re-deposited natural. This disturbance was likely associated with previous construction on the site. No archaeological features or finds were present, and the natural was not revealed. The site stratigraphy was disturbed and archaeological features, had they been present, would likely have been truncated or wholly removed.
