Abstract: |
This programme of works identified extensive evidence of prehistoric activity throughout the excavated area. Seven significant concentrations of features were identified along with numerous isolated pits, pit clusters, and rough pit alignments. The seven areas identified as key features consisted of two six-post structures, two curvilinear features (possible ploughed out enclosures) with associated pits, a cluster of large pits (possible prehistoric sand-quarrying), a curvilinear feature consisting of three conjoined pits (visible on aerial photographs), and a roundhouse. Combined with the evidence from the earlier phase of work (Savory 2015), this would suggest that the area was occupied throughout much of the prehistoric period, from the Neolithic through to the Iron Age. |
