Abstract: |
Headland Archaeology (UK) Ltd was commissioned to undertake a Level 3 historic building survey prior to the redevelopment of the area at Clyde Waterfront, Renfrewshire. The property, a fabrication shed, formerly formed part of the Shipbuilding facility operated by Simons-Lobnitz Ltd. The original building was constructed c 1854 with further remodelling c 1895. The extant building comprises one large building separated into two very large roofed sheds. The eastern shed incorporated fabric from both the original 1850's building and the later 19th century expansion. The south and east walls of the shed to the west also displayed earlier 19th century construction. Several later modifications had also been made to the interior of the sheds. The west shed was still is used as part of Christies scrap yard although much of the layout and steel roof support beams were of 19th century origin. |
