Abstract: |
Historic building record of a bank barn which principally functioned as a threshing barn with a two storey shippon at the northwest. The barn is located between Ilton Farm and Ilton Castle Farm within the Scheduled Ancient Monument 1019947 which contains a medieval settlement, a quadrangular castle that was licenced in 1335 and demolished in 1780 and relict gardens. Cartographic evidence indicates that the barn pre-dates 1803, the general architectural appearance of the building suggestive of an 18th century date. It has nine modern trusses forming ten bays and is of stone and cob construction. |
