Abstract: |
Wessex Archaeology was commissioned by Pegasus Group (The Client) to carry out a 12 trench evaluation before house development. The evaluation took place on land at Crowell Road, Chinnor South Oxfordshire, an agricultural field approximately 1.80 hectares in area centred on National Grid Reference (NGR) 47925, 200262. The evaluation was carried out to fulfil a planning condition placed on an application submitted to South Oxfordshire County Council. The evaluation Identified medieval activity relating to agricultural land use on the periphery of a settlement. one securely dated Late Iron Age/Romano-British ditch and some residual prehistoric artefacts. Although a human cranium was observed in one of the trenches this was left in-situ after it's position recorded. |

Note: |
Unpublished illustrated grey literature client report for an archaeological trial trench evaluation, consisting of 12 trenches within which medieval agricultural activity on the periphery of settlement. A single human cranium was identified within a feature not fully exposed on site. This was left in situ and covered. Report consists of 48 A4 pages, including tables, figures, and plates.
